Registration
The Shagya
Registry of North America (SHARONA) is the NASS registry
for Purebred Shagyas. SHARONA is affiliated with the
International Shagya Society (ISG) and is recognized by
the ISG as the American registry for both Purebred and
Part-Shagyas.
Horses
appearing in any studbook accepted by the ISG are
eligible for registration. Also, those horses which
conform to the definition of Shagya as defined by the
NASS Breeding Committee Breed Standard are eligible if
approved by the Breeding committee.
Application for Purebred
Shagya-Arabian Registration
Part-Shagya Registry
Any offspring of one NASS-registered Shagya may be
registered in the SHARONA Part-Shagya Registry, and they
will be called "Part-Shagya". Offspring of one
NASS registered Shagya and one Purebred Arabian shall
further be labeled on their Part-Shagya Registry papers
as "Part-Shagya-Arabians" and will be called
"Part-Shagya-Arabians". When applying for registration
of a Part-Shagya, the applicant is required to submit
all registration papers from any other breed registry in
which the non-Shagya parent is registered.
Application for Part-Shagya-Arabian
Registration
The above registration form can be used for either Part-Shagya
-Arabian or Part -Shagya.
Part-Shagya-Arabian -
Must have one NASS Registered Shagya parent and other
Arab or Shagya/Arab mixture parent.
Part-Shagya -

may be of any other breed/type other than Arabian.
Approval for Purebred
Shagya Breeding
At the age
of 3 years or over, any registered Shagya may be
submitted to the NASS Breeding Committee for approval
for Purebred Shagya breeding. Horses which are approved
will have a notation added by the Registrar indicating
"Approved for Purebred Shagya Breeding". Published
studbooks will also include such notations. Purebred
Shagya mares must be evaluated for breeding potential at
the age of 3 (In some years, depending on the judging
schedule, 2 year old fillies will be eligible for
evaluation.) Purebred Shagya stallions must be evaluated
for breeding potential at the age of 3 or over by a
commission appointed by the breeding committee. Criteria
for approval/denial of breeding are published by the
Breeding Committee. A
stallion report listing all mares
bred by a stallion, including all dates of breeding,
whether live cover or transported semen, must be
submitted by December 31 of each year in order for that
stallion's foals to be eligible for registration.
