22, 2009 Members Update
The NASS Breeding Committee has been working
on updating the
NASS Guidelines for Shagya Breeding
and now we are posting the updated Draft on this
website for 6 weeks (until
APRIL 16th) so that NASS members can give
feedback to the BOD at
NASS@Shagya.net
A Summary of Major Changes:
1) We are suggesting expanding the criteria for
registration for both Part-Shagya-Arabians and
Part-Shagyas, so that now these Registries will
include offspring of Part-Shagya-Arabians and
Part-Shagyas, whereas currently only offspring
of one Purebred Shagya-Arabian have been
eligible. For example if
you have a Part-Shagya-Arabian mare and want to
breed her to a stallion of another breed, the
offspring will be eligible for registration in
NASS as a Part-Shagya. Or, if you want to breed
this Part-Shagya-Arabian mare to a purebred
Arabian stallion or a Part-Shagya-Arabian
stallion, this offspring will be eligible for
registration in NASS as a Part-Shagya-Arabian.
2) In order to come in alignment with the ISG
General Studbook Regulations passed by the ISG
in 2007, we also propose making two changes to
our Studbook Regulations for Purebred
Shagya-Arabians and Shagya-Arabians: a)
Purebred Arabian mares will be eligible to be
presented for breeding approval for Shagya
breeding. b) Shagya-Arabians and Part-Shagya-Arabians
who are inspected but do not meet the standards
to be in the main Purebred Shagya Arabian
Studbook and its Appendixes (Studbook I and
Studbook I Appendix) will now be entered into a
separate division of the Studbook which will be
known as "Studbook II and Mare Book II", and
corresponding appendixes. Consequently, all
eligible horses which are presented for breeding
approval will be listed in either Books I or
Book II, depending upon the results of their
inspections and performance tests.

NASS is once again sponsoring
USDF all-breed awards for Shagya Arabians in all
divisions at all levels.
Renewal of participation in
this program was apparently not submitted in
2006, an oversight which was discovered by the
current BOD in June 2007, at which point it was
too late to renew for the 2007 show year
This situation is now rectified and NASS
is a
member in good standing again.
If you have any questions, please contact
Kathy
Richkind,
USDF liaison.
Happy showing everyone!

PASSED
(For info on this Vote passing - please read
the NASS BOD 4-23-08 Meeting Minutes) THANKS
Members!
NASS Members,
The following document is a draft of the
restated bylaws of NASS which has been prepared
by NASS Attorney Thad Huse at the request of the
NASS BOD. Please review this document and send
the NASS Bylaws Committee
BylawCommittee@shagya.net
and BOD
NASS@shagya.net
your questions and
comments.
The NASS Bylaws Committee and BOD
will answer your questions and welcomes your
comments and suggestions. This document will be
available for study on the website until the end
of February, at which time the Bylaws Committee
and BOD will make any changes which seem
advisable, based upon member feedback.
The finalized draft will then be
mailed out to all NASS voting members, along
with a ballot to mail in with your vote.
Many of the changes in the draft
revised bylaws are small ones recommended by Mr.
Huse in order to "modernize" the original NASS
Bylaws which were around 20 years old.
Other significant changes you may
note:
1) Articles one (name and
location), two (purpose and powers) and three
(membership) are essentially unchanged.
2) Article four (meeting of
members), calls for an annual meeting of
members.
3) Article five (Directors)
calls for a BOD of 7 to 9 members, 5 of whom
shall be Regional Directors elected by the
entire membership, and the other 4 Directors
will be "Directors at Large" elected by the
entire NASS membership. All terms will be 3
years in length, and terms will be staggered so
that 3 Directors are elected each year.
4) Article six (officers)
describes the officers, their selection and
their duties. These are somewhat changed from
the original bylaws.
5) Articles seven (meetings of
the BOD), eight (breeding committee), nine
(committees) and ten (registrar) contain only
minor changes.
6) Articles eleven (indemnity),
twelve (finances and services), and thirteen
(miscellaneous) mostly spell out the usual
non-profit corporate rules regarding
indemnification, finances, process for amending
the bylaws, and for possible dissolution of the
corporation."
Please email your questions,
comments or suggestions to the entire NASS
Bylaws Committee
BylawCommittee@Shagya.net
and BOD at
NASS@Shagya.net
Other important notes:
Report - Bylaws Committee: Lori
Baker (Chair)
1.) BOD Vote: Motion to Post
Draft NASS Bylaw revisions on the website for 30
days
2.) Comments/Questions posted on
the website
3.) Bylaw Committee responses
Posted on the Website
4.) Necessary revisions made to
the Bylaws at the end of the 30 day Comment
Period
5.) Final Draft will go out for
member vote
6.) A quorum requires 1/3 of
voting membership to cast a vote--then it takes
2/3 of the Quorum or 1/2 of the total voting
members, whichever is smaller, to pass the
revised Bylaws.
Our goal
is to get all of the voting members to vote.
